Wendell Esposo, Bongie Gorospe and Phillip Acob had the distinction of getting into the winner’s circle as the Garden Island R/C racers opened its 2008 year Sunday.
Esposo was in a lead battle in the 4wd Nitro Sedan A class before nailing down the top slot.
Arnold Morales finished second in that division over top qualifier Seth Morales and Noel Udaondo.
A similar battle was waged in the 4wd Nitro Sedan B class before Gorospe staked out the top slot in that division over Dimi Rivera, Aaron Arizo and Bart Garcia.
Acob controlled the 4wd Nitro Sedan C class over John Echalar and Ralph Caliboso.
The Garden Island R/C racers will move to the Wailua off-road track for its next event scheduled for Feb. 10.
First race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., and the public is invited to view the competition.
