After a long day of soccer yesterday at Vidinha Stadium, Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i high schools’ boys varsity teams ended with a 1-1 tie.
The game started on high note when Chance Bukoski cut in from the right and ricocheted his shot off Kaua‘i’s goalie Colson Fernandez.
But minutes later, the Warriors had to continue the game one man down when Pedro Rupert given a red card and had to leave the game for charging a Kaua‘i player.
Then Kapa‘a’s Parker Blaylock found himself up against two Raider forwards. Kaua‘i’s Josiah Motosue scored on that play, but an offside call negated the goal leaving Kaua‘i to try again.
Kapa‘a held the one-point lead going into the half. Motosue would score again, only this time, it counted and the game ended in a tie.
In the girls varsity match, Kapa‘a’s defense put up a good effort in keeping Kaua‘i from both their starting and backup goalies Meghan Pablo and Sonya Tupou to come out on top 1-0.
Kapa‘a scored in the first 10 minutes of the game when Nahtice Nield got a pass from the right side and slid into the center to get past Kaua‘i’s goaltender Seryna Garcia. Both teams would shut each other out in the second quarter.
In the earlier junior varsity matches, the girls teams ended in a stalemate tie of 0-0.
Kapa‘a’s boys emerged victorious yesterday 3-2, with the last goal coming in the final minutes of the game.
Kapa‘a was up 2-1 going into the half with goals from Hunter Hudson and Joseph Enrique. Alex Brown scored the goal for Kaua‘i.
In the second, Lucas Riley scored the tying goal for Kaua‘i. Both teams got restless toward the end having been stuck at a 2-2 tie for so long, before Malua States scored giving Kapa‘a the win.
The next set of varsity matches will start at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Hanapepe Stadium when Waimea High School hosts Kaua‘i.
