Former Olympian to lead Po‘okela camps
Laurel Brassey Iverson, former Olympic volleyball player and head coach at the University of New Mexico, will be running the Po‘okela Volleyball Club’s camp and tryouts for girls in the 12 Under, 14 Under and 16 Under age groups.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of her caliber and experience putting on a camp for the kids,” said Corey Morishita, one of the Po‘okela coaches, in an e-mail. “It will be a great opportunity for all of the kids who are able to come out and be coached by her.”
The camp and tryouts for the 16 Under girls will start on Jan. 13, and the 12 Under and 14 Under camps and tryouts start on Jan. 14.
The 16 and Under girls will be working at the Kaua‘i High School gym while the 12’s and 14’s will be working at the Lihu‘e Christian Church on Kress Street.
Morishita said there is a $15 fee for the camps.

Hanapepe Baseball meeting Jan. 15
The Hanapepe Youth Baseball Association will host a meeting to introduce its newly elected board members as well as discuss the 2008 season.
The meeting will take place Jan. 15 at the Hanapepe Neighborhood Center patio area starting at 6:15 p.m.
