Jeff Venzon just couldn’t make the opening games for KIF basketball since he was already committed to refereeing the KIF soccer games in Kapa‘a. Anahola Joel Pahukula pretty much came from the plane from New Orleans to pick up stats on the Kapa‘a sweep over Kaua‘i.
Kelvin Moniz got a chance to be a spectator for a change, as he joined his ‘ohana in the stands at the Raiderdome, but he did go over to chat with officials Brian Inouye, Edmund Acoba and Gene Padilla between the games.
Meanwhile, the coconut wireless was in full swing as Keith Burgess was communicating with Sam Henriques (mahalo for the chocolate treats) on the status of the ongoing soccer games at the New Kapa‘a Town Park. Mahalo, too, to Dr. Rick Goodale for getting the game report out on e-mail so everything could be completed on time.
Mahalo to Jane Garma for the heads-up on the soccer clinic — still time to get tickets for the Pan Pacific soccer tournament, too.
OK, it’s off to the busy KIF calendar after checking out Jimmy Yagi, former UH Hilo basketball coach, and Bill O’Rear, Hilo’s Tribune-Herald sports editor and former UH Hilo player, for the county’s basketball clinic. I wonder if Linda Lopez made this year’s trip?
And if you want to mark your calendars ahead, Donna Schulze said the East Kaua‘i Y’s Mens’ annual Youth Fun Run is coming up the weekend of Jan. 19 — is there going to be an ‘Iniki II?
