The Department of Parks & Recreation is sponsoring Coach Yagi’s annual Youth Basketball Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Kaua‘i High School gymnasium.
Youth between the ages of 9 and 13 are invited to attend this free clinic. Registration will take place at the gym prior to the start. Participants should wear basketball shoes.
Coach Jimmy Yagi and his staff, including former National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American guard Bill O’Rear, will cover the fundamentals of the game of basketball: ball handling drills, body position, footwork, importance of the pivot, passing and team building concepts.
A former basketball coach for the Vulcans at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, Yagi ran a very successful program and placed Hilo on the map when one of his teams reached the NAIA finals.
After retiring, Yagi was inducted into UH Hilo’s Vulcan Hall of Honor.
