The Kaua‘i Amateur Radio Club and American Red Cross (Lihu‘e Chapter) will be holding an Amateur Radio License study session at the American Red Cross, Umi and Hardy Streets in Lihu‘e on Saturday, Jan. 5.
Fees are $20 for the study material and test, $14 for the test only. If paying with cash, bring exact change. If paying by check, make out check to Jack Mackinnon.
This study method was developed by John Portune W6NBC in 1995 to improve the percentage of people passing the license exam. See John’s website at www.w6nbc.com for information on the design and results from this learning system. It has been updated and fine tuned by the Bay Area Educational Amateur Radio Society, see www.baears.com for more information.
This is not a class. It is a guided study consisting of six 45-minute pool reading periods, with breaks and lunch. This is the most efficient way to maximize attention span against study fatigue.
“In other words, we tell you how to study, keep you doing it in an organized way and then give the test as soon as you are finished. It is a proven winning formula,” organizers state in a press release.
Short term memory is the “secret” of the high success rate. All exam questions will be what you study during the session. This is the biggest reason why 90% are easily able to recognize the correct answers immediately after reading the question pool thoroughly, leading to a high pass ratio.
The study session begins with registration at 8 a.m. The exam on the material starts at 4 p.m. The exam is open to all, as well as anyone else wishing to take an exam without attending the study session. Those planning on taking the Amateur Extra Class examination, should plan on downloading or otherwise getting the question pool and studying at least half before that Saturday.
