The 5th annual Starry Nights Fundraiser organized by Hanalei School PTSA raised more than $39,000 for Hanalei Elementary. The event was held on Nov. 30 at the Princeville Hotel Ballroom
A live auction at the event featured artwork, hand-crafted furniture and paintings by the students of Hanalei School. Star paddles created by the students were used to get the auctioneer’s attention.
Event proceeds will help pay for teaching positions, technology equipment, as well as non-funded programs such as music, art, dance, chess and a garden project.
The Hanalei School PTSA would like to thank the community for its generous donations and support and would also like to extend a big mahalo to the Princeville Hotel, Irons Brothers, Magic Dragon Toy & Art Supply, Maryl Group, King Auto, KIUC, Hanalei Bay Resort and Princeville at Hanalei.
Despite the Hanalei School’s PTSA fundnraising efforts throughout the year the money raised won’t nearly cover the state’s allotted funds for paying the basic needs of this small school. Hanalei Elementary will be losing $83,200 in the coming school year regardless of having consistent student enrollment.
According to a press release, Hanalei School’s Principal Corey Nakamura said, “Despite our budget cuts for the 2008-2009 school year, we will continue to provide our students with effective standards-based curriculum, rigorous instruction and quality programs.
“Hanalei Elementary School is very fortunate to have a supportive and hard-working PTSA.”
