KAPA‘A — The Kapa‘a JV soccer teams split on Saturday, the boys taking a 5-2 win while the girls suffered a 2-1 loss to Kaua‘i.
Kapa‘a boys charged back from a 0-0 halftime tie to net five quick goals en route to its win over the JV Raiders.
Joseph Enrique paced the Warrior win with two goals.
Lowen Gonzales, Hunter Hudson and Zaumana Fernandez netted the remaining goals that all came in the second half.
Lucas Riley paced the Kaua‘i effort with two goals in the loss.
Britney Gardner took the spotlight in the Kaua‘i JV girls win by netting an early goal, and coming up with an assist on the go-ahead goal by Kelsey Cadiente in the second half.
Kapa‘a’s Laurie Anne Tamayo scored the JV Warriors’ lone goal.
Darren Kosen, one of the coaches for the Waimea JV boys who was in the audience Saturday, was pleased with the performance of the JV Menehune in their last outing against Kapa‘a where Waimea JV tied the JV Warriors 1-1.
“That was exactly what we needed,” Kosen said. “We (the coaches) knew the boys had what it took to play against anyone, and we kept working with them for weeks trying to convince them. Now, they know.”
On Thursday, Kaua‘i JV will travel to the Hanapepe Stadium to take on Waimea with the first game scheduled to start at 4 p.m. followed by the second game starting at 6 p.m.
