Kauai High School’s girls and boys junior varsity teams won their rainy day, sludgefest matches against Waimea High School Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium. Kaua‘i’s girls won 7-0, while the boys won 2-1.
Kaua‘i’s girls dominated the field Saturday in a mostly one-sided game with most of the first half of the game being played on Waimea’s half of the field.
Kaua‘i’s Britney Gardner and Teal Basquez scored goals for the Red Raiders in the first half. The girls got five more goals in the second half from Brianne Hornos, Lisa Tangalin, Alexa Tamashiro, Malia Kagawa and Kayla Perez.
For the boys match, Kaua‘i’s Raiders outshot the Menehune, but Waimea was able to keep Kaua‘i to only two scores.
Caleb Licke, outstanding in the recent American Youth Soccer Association season, broke the ice for Waimea only to have the Junior Raiders answer with goals from Aaron Pigott and Kalen Kimura.
Waimea travels to Kapa‘a on Thursday for a match against Kapa‘a High School, then will play Island School on Saturday at the Waimea Canyon Park.
