The Kaua‘i Council of the Navy League of the United States will feature retired Rear Adm. Robert Kihune as guest speaker at the Dec. 7 dinner honoring those men and women who have served their country in the U.S. military.
The Kaua‘i Council of the Navy League of the United States will feature retired Rear Adm. Robert Kihune as guest speaker at the Dec. 7 dinner honoring those men and women who have served their country in the U.S. military.
The dinner will be held at the Kauai Marriott Resort at 6 p.m.
Kihune is the only member of the U.S. military of Native Hawaiian and Japanese ancestry to achieve three star rank. He was born in 1937 and raised in Lahaina, Maui.
He graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1955 and the U.S. Naval Academy in 1959.
During his naval career he commanded three battle groups: USS Kitty Hawk, USS Nimitz and USS New Jersey. He retired from the Navy in June 1994 after 35 years of service to his country.
Kihune is now president of the USS Missouri Memorial Association. He is married and the father of three.
