Les Knudsen spends a lot of time in his front yard, and it shows.
His beautiful yard at 5093 Kahana off Kawaihau Road in Kapahi is the winner of the November Neighborhood Pride Award given each month by the Wailua-Kapa‘a Homeowners Association, according to a press release from the group.
Les Knudsen and his wife Dee retired to this home eight years ago. He spent approximately $50 on plants in the beginning of his improvements and that was the bulk of his investment. Now time is his biggest expense, the release states. Knuden spends two hours a day in his yard when he’s not surfing on a long board.
The Waialeale Estates resident walks his dog on the beach and finds the fishing buoys he has decorating his yard.
A Vietnam Army veteran, he retired from hospital administration in Pasadena, Calif. He considers his “handyman” status a full-time job now.
He will receive his award at the November monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Nov. 24, at the Wailua Homesteads Park. The public is invited to this community information and involvement meeting.
Nominations for beautiful front yards for which the homeowners themselves have done the work can be submitted at Helena1824@AOL.com or 822-1885.
The property must be located in the 96746 zip code.
