Kaua‘i High School’s Jerald Colobong was the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation’s top finisher at the Billy Tee’s State Bowling Championships at the Hilo Lanes in Hilo Friday.
Colobong finished just outside of the top 15, in 16th place, with a total score of 1686 — 131 pins off from the first-place finisher Justin Kanda of Roosevelt High School.
Other KIF finishers for the boys division were Micah Sollisod (Kaua‘i, 50), Harold Shimono, Jr. (Waimea, 64), Bryson Cabalteja (Kaua‘i, 82), William Balbin (Kaua‘i, 83), Benjie Bersamira (Kaua‘i, 88) and Aaron Belmonte (Kapa‘a, 92).
On the girls side, Kaua‘i’s Jessica Iwata was the highest KIF finisher in 22nd place. Iwata moved up three slots from the first day and finished with a score of 1565. Other finishers were Sherri Cubangbang (Kaua‘i, 55), Tiffany Lum (Waimea, 69), Kathleen Cadiente (Kaua‘i, 71), Mindi Agena (Kapa‘a 75), Aimee Palaroan (Kaua‘i, 79) and Kelsey Cadiente (Kaua‘i, 86).
Overall, the boys of Hawaii Baptist Academy won their second straight state crown and their third title in four years. The two-day tournament began Thursday with two sessions of three games each and concluded Friday with the final morning session.
