HANAPEPE — Four teams from the Under 12 division are already heading to the Wil Veeck soccer tournament which starts next week at Vidinha Stadium.
But two teams will be involved in a playoff this afternoon after a tight skirmish Monday night.
In the Boys Under 12, the Kalaheo Galaxy proved to be 8-2 better than Waimea for the American Youth Soccer Organ-ization Region 940 gold medal. However, in the girls contest, the Lihu‘e C handed Waimea its first blemish of the season, 2-1, to force a playoff for the title tomorrow afternoon starting at 4 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
That contest will be followed by the U16-19 contest starting at 5:30 p.m.
Playoffs for the Region 940 titles started Monday night with the boys and girls in Under 12 going for the gold under the lights at Hanapepe.
Tonight, the GU14 rematch opens the gates followed by the finale between the U16-19.
En route to the gold, Justin Garma and Krieg Medeiros scored a goal each in both the first and second halves to lead the Galaxy.
Eli Sloan, Tyler Lewis and Jared Okayama added first-half goals each for the win.
Waimea was able to net two goals in the first half from Tyler Yamamoto and James Pugmire.
Asia Farley proved to be the winning margin for the Lihu‘e C in its 2-1 edge over the previously undefeated Waimea and force the playoff. Ivy Sarmiento found the net for the Westside girls.
