Jordon Dizon’s statistics just keep getting better and better. On top of being the nation’s leading tackler, Dizon added a touchdown to his credit catching one of the four interceptions thrown by Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell in Colorado’s 31-26 win on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
This was his first interception return for a touchdown so far this season.
The University of Colorado Buffs (5-4, 3-2 Big 12) went up 24-6 early in the third quarter when Dizon intercepted Harrell and returned it 42 yards for a TD. But after taking that 12-point lead, Colorado coach Dan Hawkins said he still didn’t feel like his team was safely ahead of Texas Tech.
“Against these guys, you never feel like that, you really don’t. I tend to think that way anyway, because I’ve seen too many games flip-flop,” Hawkins said in a release. “It was a good momentum builder but clearly not the end of the game by any means.”
Dizon also registered 9 tackles (8 solo, 1 assisted).
Colorado kept the ball on the ground and wore down Tech’s defense for most of the game. The Buffs ran the ball 44 of 71 plays, compiling 217 yards on the ground. The Buffaloes held the ball for just over 34 minutes and limited the Red Raiders to just 39 yards rushing.
Dizon currently racked up 120 total tackles on the season. The Waimea High School graduate was recently named as a semifinalist for the Dick Butkus award, given to the top linebacker in the country for college football.
The final three honorees will be announced on Nov. 9 with the winner being named in December in Orlando.
Colorado next hosts Missouri at 4:30 p.m. MST on Saurday in Boulder.
