Hats off to Maureen Murphy of the Kaua‘i Outdoor Circle for coordinating another successful beach cleanup at Po‘ipu Beach, Saturday.
Jim Harris, president of the Marriott Waiohai Association board, said Steve Yannarell, the Waiohai’s new general manager, was just initiated at their last meeting.
Steve was out with some of the Waiohai staff to help with the cleanup. The Waiohai got involved in this project because one of its employees, Doug Beane, originally adopted Po‘ipu Beach Park. Now, there are about 40 to 50 people who come out every time there is a cleanup.
And, of course, it tied in with the monk seal count that was also taking place at the park … Dr. Mimi Olry was off to check on a pup so wasn’t there until later, but the seals were there.
Heading over the mountain, hats off to Janice Bond of Read to Me International on another great Keiki Story Festival.
A lot of parents from the Pop Warner game visited the event after the morning games, and Grammy Award winner George Kahumoku Jr. from Maui discovered Bobbie’s roast pork.
Actually, Bobbie’s owners, Dawn and Derek Hosaka are sister and brother to Shawn and Yvonne Hosaka who was on hand to watch their daughter become Princess Kaiulani for the event.
Dawn is waiting for Nov. 10 when the Hawaiian Church does its annual laulau sale … if you go early, you get the benefit of the aroma, too. Dawn said everything they sell is good.
