Judy Freitas
Judy Freitas, of Koloa, died Sept. 21, 2007, at Queen’s Hospital at the age of 46.
Born Nov. 17, 1960, in New Mexico, she was office manager for Stiglmeier, Albert W., CPA Inc.
She is survived by her husband Leonard Freitas of Koloa, sons Brandon Freitas of Koloa, Bryson Freitas of Koloa, and Travis (Christina) Freitas of California; daughters Kitty (Brad) Celebrado of Puhi and Tracy Freitas of Missouri; hanai son Kalama Reis; parents James and Coleen Lawshe of Kalaheo; brothers James (Cindy) Lawshe of Arizona, Edwin (Valerie) Lawshe of Washington, Barry (Michelle) Lawshe of Colorado, and John Lawshe of Kalaheo; seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa, where Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Raphael’s Church cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Paul Panui
Paul Panui died Sept. 23, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 69.
Born July 24, 1938, in Hawai‘i, he was a retired firefighter (operator).
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Margaret Panui; sister Kanani Kahaunaele; and brother-in-law Hidemi Nakamura; son Paul Anthony “Maka” Panui; son-in-law Kalama Nobriga; father-in-law Frank Bukoski; and brother-in-law Kenneth Bukoski.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Panui, daughters Taddy (Joe) Penzetta, Nani (Greg) Sadora and Kana (Lono Brede Jr.) Nobriga; son Chad Panui; hanai daughter Kaila Naholoholo; grandchildren Kalei Sadora, Shyanne Sadora, Nicholas Penzetta, Torey Nobriga, Skyler Sadora and “Bullas” Brede; brother James (Boots) Panui; sisters Merrilee (Mike) Chandler and Napua Nakamura; brother-in-lawDavid Kahaunaele; mother-in-law Elizabeth Bukoski; brothers-in-law Frank (Lynn) Bukoski and Sam (Lola) Bukoski; sisters-in-law: Peggy (Davison) McCallum and Rosie (Uli‘i Castor) Bukoski).
A celebration of his life will be on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Friends may visit with the family from noon. with the service at 3 p.m. Borthwick Mortuary handled arrangements.
Dale Clay Hartless
Dale Clay Hartless died on Sept. 23, 2007, at Graham Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness at the age of 84.
Born on July 5, 1923, in Noble, Okla., to Claude Clay and Virgie Ruth Allen Hartless, he married Dorthia M. Ragland on Feb. 20, 1947 in Graham. He was a member of the church of Christ.
He served his country honorably in the Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater; and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 41 years of service.
Survivors include his wife Dorthia; children Elaine Hartless of Puhi, Dan Hartless of Sherman, Texas, Karen (Kelly) Kelley of Georgetown, Texas, Ken Hartless of Colleyville, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; niece Patty Hartless Vasquez of Eldorado, Okla.; several other nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was known as “Daddy Dale” to many “adopted” family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Marion Charles; and a nephew Mike Hartless.
Cremation was handled by McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home in Graham. In keeping with his wishes, no service is planned. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Foster’s Home for Children, P.O. Box 978, Stephenville, TX, 76401 or the charity of your choice.
Robert E. Offley
Robert E. Offley of Kapahi died at home surrounded by his loved ones on Sept. 22, 2007, at the age of 74.
Born in Pasadena, Calif., he also lived in the Marshall Islands before arriving on Kaua‘i in late 1972, promptly falling in love with the island, and relocating his family here in May 1973. He worked as a carpenter and cabinetmaker, eventually earning his contractor’s license. In later years, he ran Kakalina’s Bed and Breakfast together with his wife, Kathy.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Liz Offley. He is survived by his wife Kathy Offley, his daughters, Torrey Offley and Kathleen Deppe (John); his sons, Caleb Offley (Sarah) and Josh Offley (Sharon); his step-daughters, Heather Barth (Jason) and Lisa Cockrell (Bo); and five grandchildren and fine woodworking.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kaua‘i Hospice.
