Jonathan Chun said the power only flickered at his home, but the TV went out so they ended up watching DVDs … good thing it didn’t happen during the UH game.
Waimea cross country coach Bunga Fuertes said it was a good thing Chris Acoba was at the game, and Waimea AD Jon Kobayashi did a great job keeping everyone in the loop after the power went out … with all the cell phones waving in the dark, the whole thing resembled a rock concert, but the closest thing we got to rocking and rolling was Beth Cuizon and Darryl Miyasato doing the alma maters.
Greg Gonsalves had his chance Saturday when the power went out twice during the volleyball games in Kapa‘a. Calvin Paleka was definitely pumped about the whole thing, and since it happened while there was still daylight, Annette Hashimoto could sell a lot of hot dogs and saimin during the break.

Hats off to Kaua‘i coach Hank Ibia and his baseball parents for getting to work on the Vidinha Stadium baseball field … Roger Taniguchi and Lance Fu were indispensable in the project, Hank said, and when the whole thing is done, it’s going to look great! Now, if we get the lights, maybe we’ll get some Winter League baseball, too.
