KAPA‘A — Kaua‘i High School won its second match of the season last night, defeating Kapa‘a High School in three games, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-23.’
Kaua‘i’s setter Jewel Villatora had a good game last night registering 11 assists and one ace. It’s offense combined for 16 kills on the night.
Kaua‘i’s Jamilee Jimenez had five kills and Kara Cummings had an ace and three kills, including the match-winning kill at the end of the third game.
Kapa‘a (0-3), despite its loss, posted some good numbers.
The combination of Maliana Hamada and Mailika Napoleon seemed to work nicely for the Warriors for most of the night. Napoleon had eight kills and eight assists, while Hamada had six kills, seven assists and two aces. Leihua McCabe had four aces in a row in the third game.
But with those good numbers, Kapa‘a had more than their share of errors which, in the end, cost them the game.
Kaua‘i won the first game on a Kapa‘a service error, the second by a Courtney Wilson/Villatora double block of a Kapa‘a hitter and the third game by Cummings’ kill.
Kaua‘i (2-1) hosts Waimea High School on Tuesday.
In the junior varsity match, Kaua‘i won in four games 25-20, 25019, 11-25 and 26-24. They will also play Waimea Tuesday. Kapa‘a’s JV team hosts Island School in an exhibition match also on Tuesday.
