KAPA‘A — Josey Jacinto was all over the volleyball court last night in Waimea High School’s win against Kapa‘a High School.
But that was a good thing because she finished the game with an ace, a kill and 18 assists to help pace the team in Waimea’s (2-0) victory over Kapa‘a (0-2) in three games 25-11, 25-17, 25-15.
Waimea head coach Chad Delanoza did a good job spreading the team out to cover everything Kapa‘a had coming their way.
Tatum Gonsalves finished with 9 kills while teammate Brytney Yadao-Lanning had 8. Cheri Kua 7 kills, had three solo blocks and was a part of two doubles. Qyla Parangao had 9 assists.
Waimea at one point had a 15-point lead in the first game. A quick-set from Jacinto to Kua capped that game to finish it 25-11.
The second game was the best one for Kapa‘a. Maliana Hamada had two of her four kills in this one and had three assists. But Waimea still came out on top.
Waimea held another big lead in the third game, but Mailika Napoleon held them at match point for several plays as Kapa‘a tried to come back. The game and match, however, ended in a Napoleon service error.
This win gives Waimea an early lead in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation. Waimea has a bye Saturday and Kapa‘a hosts Kaua‘i High School.
