KAPA‘A — Koloa swept its series against Lihu‘e and host Kapa‘a finished with a win and two ties to open the 2007 Pop Warner tackle football and cheer season in a new venue, Saturday.
Koloa took the field first and shut down Lihu‘e 32-6 in the Junior Pee Wee contest before taking a 25-6 victory in the Midget contest to set the stage for the host Kapa‘a association.
The Kapa‘a Eagles opened the stadium with a 13-6 win over Hanapepe in its JPW contest, but ended with a 6-6 stalemate in the Pee Wee contest and 0-0 in the Midget matchup.
Austin Manera kept Lihu‘e Patriots JPW from a shutout in the opening contest, Manera pushing up six points on a six-yard run early in the fourth quarter to mark the Patriots.
Earlier, Kelson Andrade scored two TDs, including a 56-yard runback of a kickoff return in the third quarter to lead the Koloa showing.
He was joined by Kyren Rapacon who netted the first two TDs of the game, a 28-yarder and a 23-yard score in the first quarter.
Kalawai‘a Judd, who took in a pass from Trey Aguano for the first point-after score, upped the ante by scoring the only TD in the second quarter, a 52-yard gallop to the end zone.
Allen Domingo had three TDs to lead the Koloa Midgets to its win over Lihu‘e.
Keoki Pantorilla scored the final Koloa TD with Vincent Baloran putting the icing on the cake with a successful run-in of the point-after point with 27 seconds showing in the third quarter.
An unidentified Patriot galloped for 64 yards and a score early in the fourth quarter to keep the Patriots from being shut down.
Mitchell Peralto and Edsel Lactaotao put the JPW Eagles on the board in the afternoon series with La‘akea Iseri Carvalho making an aerial connection with A.J. Cummings for the final math in the point-after score.
Prestyn Parongao broke the plane on a 3-yard scoring run for Hanapepe with 2:03 remaining in the contest to keep the Colts from being shut down.
Morgan Childs broke open a 0-0 defensive slugfest on a 17-yard scamper to the end zone in the third quarter to put the Eagles PW on the board, but a blocked kick in the point-after attempt kept the margin to 6-0 which was answered late in the period when Hanapepe QB Kenneth Tacazon found Kamalei Compoc Dela Cruz on a 26-yard pass in the end zone.
A failed run in the point-after effort stalemated the contest 6-6.
Similarly, the Colts and Eagles battled to a 0-0 tie in the Midget division, a testament to both teams’ prowess on the field.
This Saturday’s games move to Hanapepe Stadium for five games. Hanapepe hosts Kekaha starting at 9 a.m. with Koloa taking on Kapa‘a starting at 3 p.m.
