Kristen Vasconcelles added another saddle and buckle to her growing list of awards.
Vasconcelles was named the 2007 All Around Cowgirl by the Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association following its year-end rodeo.
That distinction joins another: She was named the Hawai‘i High School Rodeo Queen earlier in the year.
But the awards don’t stop there as Vasconcelles was also presented the first place buckle for Steer Undecorating and Breakaway Roping by the KAGRA officials.
Additionally, she was honored with the Frank Medeiros Memorial Award for the fastest Breakaway Roping time in the five-rodeo series.
These awards came after competing in a field of 46 other cowgirls in the KAGRA arena including her mother Cheree Rapozo-Vasconcelles, and two aunts, Coralyn Murayama and Corinna Schumacher, states a KAGRA press release.
Marti Snyder finished the year as the Reserve Cowgirl.
KAGRA will wrap up the 2007 season by hosting the Kaua‘i Rodeo Challenge at the Kealia arena on Sept. 22 and 23.
A fund-raiser for KAGRA major sponsor YMCA of Kaua‘i, the semifinals of slack roping competition will start at 11 a.m., Sept. 22.
The rodeo will start at noon on Sept. 23.
Entry forms for the slack roping are available at Del’s Farm Supply in Puhi and Harvey’s Feed Store in Kalaheo. Sept. 17 is the deadline to submit the completed applications.
The public is invited to view the local cowboy competition and rodeo events at no charge. Competing will be local cowboys, cowgirls and keiki.
