Kaua‘i High School walked away with a split following Thursday’s encounter with Island School in the KIF Air Rifle matches.
With just four girls showing up to shoot for Kaua‘i, Island School took the girls competition 1,075-836, but the Red Raider boys continued to demonstrate their mastery of the sport with a 1,086-928 win over the Island School squad.
Elliot Yamamoto and Jason Cabot took the top slots in the boys competition with scores of 235 (80-82-73) and 232 (82-83-67), respectively. Kelan Adachi anchored the middle with 226 (80-83-63) followed by Christopher Mazzia and Kent Rapozo rounding out the team scoring with 204 (85-57-62) and 189 (78-60-51), respectively.
The Island School boys were led by Logan Domingo (84-68-45-197), J. Riley Louis (78-56-59-193) and Ian Ruiz (83-63-43-189). Carlos Maibeth-Mortimer and Hunter Coberly rounded out the Island School team with scores of 176 and 173, respectively.
In the girls arena, Michelle Woltmon topped all shooters with a 236 (86-83-67) showing followed by Sona James (85-77-59-221) and Richelle Ridenour (84-62-73-219). Blaise Lamadrid and Lindsey Duarte rounded out the Island School women’s team scoring with scores of 200 and 199, respectively.
First-year shooter Valerie Ganiban was thrilled to take the lead for the Red Raiders in its losing effort.
Ganiban finished with a 220 (79-72-69), 9 points ahead of Jennifer Tagupa who ended with a 211 (83-64-64). Megan Rasay followed a point back at 210 (81-71-58) and Nicole Cristobal rounded out the field at 195 (71-66-58).
With the split, Island School will host Kapa‘a in a match that was re-scheduled from a previous date.
That match will take place today starting at 3 p.m. at the Island School campus.
