Malama Pono, Kaua‘i AIDS Project awarded Maile Baird of Kapa‘a two bicycles at a drawing held at the Kaua‘i County Fair in late August. The drawing was a promotion for Paradise Ride Kaua‘i held earlier in August, the big fund-raiser for Malama Pono. The bikes had been on display at various locations around Kaua‘i for more than two months.
“What a surprise,” said Baird who works at Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i in Lihu‘e. “I was looking to buy a bicycle and now I’ve won two.”
“I bought the winning ticket at the Miz Kaua‘i Tita Pageant where I saw the bikes being exhibited,” Baird said.
The two Redline bicycles were donated to Malama Pono by Chuck Hooper, president of Seattle Bike Supply. The two bikes were valued at over $900. This is the second year that Hooper, a frequent Kaua‘i visitor and supporter of Malama Pono, has donated bicycles in support of the Paradise Ride Kaua‘i. The donation brought more than $1,900 to Malama Pono’s mission, but served an even greater value of promoting the Paradise Ride, Malama Pono’s biggest yearly fundraiser.
