Happy birthday to Kristen Garma who celebrates her special day today. She has grown up to become a little lady, not needing to go to the games with mom Jane Garma. Jane was busy at the Friday night game, working with the Pop Warner people at the Jamboree, and of course, at the Waimea pre-season game, too.
Randall Valenciano (he got to sit on the audience side of the courtroom wall Friday) said it’s a good thing his parents live in Hanapepe since he had a full day on the Westside. Placido, on the other hand, had to forego the bon dance to officiate at the Kapa‘a pre-season game where Tori Mills, mom of the Coronado Islander QB, was learning about mauka and makai.
Hats off to Paul Pancho and all the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Association officials for doing such a great job with the Jamboree. Bryan Baptiste was doing the Jane Garma schedule but he had time for the kalua and cabbage offering in Kapa‘a.
Best wishes to Mel Rapozo for a speedy recovery! Mel couldn’t be at the Jamboree (it’s not the same without that familiar voice on the mic) since he just got out of the hospital, but sent his regards in a written communication. He’s wondering if he’s related to Leo Rapozo.
Hats off to Josie Pablo and all that Mahelona Hospital ‘ohana for doing such a good job with the bon dance. Now, is the apple flying saucer an Arnold Leong creation? It was ono … even Esther Shigeta said they should’ve stopped off for flying saucers before the game.
Happy Labor Day, Kaua‘i! If it’s not too late, you can still get breakfast at the Lihu‘e United Church.
