KAPA‘A — Caleb Sarsona put the icing on a Kapa‘a victory with an 86-yard touchdown breakout to end the third quarter, Friday at the New Kapa‘a Town Park’s football stadium.
That was the final score in the Warriors’ 28-14 showing over the Komaba Gakuen High School Fighting Gorillas in the Tiger Bowl.
Earlier, Brehdan Kamibayashi passed for two touchdowns to lead the Warrior JV to a 28-19 edge over the red-shirted Gorillas.
Over on the Big Island, the Red Raiders shared in the Friday night sweep by totally shutting down the Hilo Vikings.
Ralph Suniga, who does duty as the Red Raider announcer, said the JV Raiders blanked Hilo 30-0 and the varsity squad shut down the Vikings 40-0 in a contest that started late.
Daniel Lizama took the lead for Kapa‘a, scoring all three Warrior TDs while piling up 97 yards on 18 carries on the ground.
Sarsona finished with 88 yards on two carries including his 86-yard scoring breakout to end the third quarter.
Defensively, Mauka Rapozo recovered a fumble that set up Lizama’s first score and stymied a Gorilla challenge in the second quarter by intercepting a pass to end the half.
Yuya Kodama netted two TDs for Komaba Gakuen, finishing with 83 yards on 22 carries.
