Saryna Garcia led the Kulia Lanakila team to victory in the Girls 14 and Under bracket at the recent 2007 Volcano Invitational Soccer Tournament in Hilo.
Garcia’s goalkeeping and the defensive efforts sparked by Chauncie Garcia-Brown and Dayna Fujii kept Ka Uhana Koa of Hilo to a 2-1 showing for the championship.
Mid-fielder Kayla Perez joined with Elayna Ah Puck and Sierra Mayer to provide consistent support as the trio controlled the offensive showing by the Kaua‘i purple-shirts.
Working both sides of the ball, Larissa Crain notched the winning goal for the title, and coach Glenn Morita said she demonstrated outstanding play at defense and offense.
Under the coaching of Morita and Colin Wilson, the Kulia Lanakila ranks were augmented by players from Cindy Crain’s Wailua team and Kevin Devitt’s Lihu‘e team for the trip.
Morita said in an e-mail that Codi Rei Pezario, Larissa Crain and Kyara Bunao came in from Wailua and Fujii joined in from the Lihu‘e squad.
