Ronnie Tongg came up with two goals and Peter Cameron added another, but Island Ace Hardware had to settle for a 5-3 loss at the hands of Pacific Journal, Sunday.
Tongg opened the books for the previously victorious Island Hardware in the third chukker and Cameron added his score in the final chukker to give the Island Ace Hardware a 1-1 standing on the season. Its earlier win came in a 9-7 shootout against CJ’s Steak House, July 8 at the ‘Anini polo fields.
Despite the late scoring, Tongg was instrumental in Island Hardware defense from the opening chukker and stymied on several offensive attacks by the Pacific Journal defense.
Pacific Journal, a part of the Central Pacific Media Corporation, chalked up its victory in the presense of its president Tammi Andersland, and vice president Jeanne Jackson as John Lydgate did the opening toss in.
In the victory, Doug Blumenthal opened the scorebooks amidst strong stickwork in the opening chukker for these two goals.
Scott Sims nailed a goal in the second chukker in very heavy traffic, and Nick Galindo iced the victory with two goals in the final period, igniting the crowd with his field work of maneuvering through the defense.
Strong stickwork on both sides of the ball from both teams provided spectators with numerous windows of excitement as offensive plays on both sides resulted in ride-overs.
But late in the third chukker, Tongg was able to break the ice as he tapped his first of two goals to raise the crowd to its feet in cheer, the goal coming after persevering over Nick Galindo the length of the field.
Tongg’s pair of goals brought Island Ace Hardware to within a point, 3-2 at the horn, erasing a 3-0 halftime deficit.
