Sharon Gibson and Marty Ellis were “greeters,” so had to leave the finish line quickly. Terry Wells was checking on the Kaua‘i boats in the race and made several trips back and forth to the clubhouse … Capt. Andy Evans and the crew aboard “Manu Kai” celebrated its first finish by firing up the hibachi and had a post-race party of their own at the loading dock, and Louis Abrams was still wet from the crossing. Great job to all!
Over at Hanalei, was nice to see Carol Casil who came over for the paddling championships with her daughters Temana and Tehani who paddle for Kai Ehitu as steerspeople in the 12 and 15 age groups.
Kawika Goodale was there, paddling in two races for Hanalei, and even Alan Faye came over to check out the excitement … 3,000 paddlers!
Lyle Galdeira, who normally wears the Sports Information hat for the Hawai‘i Winter League Baseball program, switched to the newspaper reporter mode. He was over to watch his sister who paddles for one of the teams … does that mean we get the Kaua‘i Emeralds again? Mike Teruya couldn’t stay away … he was able to get some stuff from Joe Olivas and it was just like the old days of shooting paddling. He had some sad news, though … no more Lihu‘e Fishing Supply tourney?
