Rachel Dressler was proud of the three trophies she earned at the recent martial arts tournament held in Kilauea.
“I won three trophies that I really like, and I had a lot of fun,” the 5-year-old student of Universal Karate of Kaua‘i said.
Dressler was one of hundreds of participants who converged at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center, July 7, in a tournament sponsored by Kenn Firestone of Universal Karate of Kaua‘i and Sifu Pete Gallardo of the Garden Angels of Kaua‘i.
According to a press release from Universal Karate, competitors came from throughout the state of Hawai‘i and the Mainland.
Some of the youngest competitors hailed from Unversal Karate under Sensei Firestone and were not shy in demonstrating their focus, discipline, courtesy and respect at the tournament.
For her efforts, Dressler earned a first place trophy in weapons, third place in both footsweeping and forms.
Keikilani Martin was one of the top performers for Universal Karate, finishing with first place honors in both footsweeping and forms.
Caleb Martin walked off with second place honors in forms.
Jonathan Herbert collected multiple honors, earning second place in footsweeping, second place in sparring, second place in weapons and rounding out his achievements with third place in forms.
