County officials announced Friday that Deputy County Engineer Kylan Dela Cruz has accepted another position in the county. He will be leaving his current post and moving to the Department of Parks and Recreation as Deputy Director, effective tomorrow.
In a prepared statement, Dela Cruz said, “I have tremendous respect for the people in the Department of Public Works.
“I have seen first-hand how they truly care about the quality of service they provide for the residents of Kaua‘i and will miss working with them.”
In his new position, Dela Cruz will assist DPR Director Bernard Carvalho with running the county’s newest department.
He will be responsible for formulating operational and administrative policies for the various divisions within the department, planning and organizing the development of parks and recreation activities, managing the department’s operating and capital improvement budgets, and other duties.
“I’m excited about the challenges that lie ahead. I look forward to working with Bernard and the mayor in laying the foundation for the Department of Parks and Recreation,” Dela Cruz said.
Carvalho is looking forward to Dela Cruz joining the Department of Parks and Recreation. “Kylan is familiar with many of the ongoing projects that started when parks was part of Public Works and has already established solid relationships with many of the staff who merged into the Department of Parks and Recreation,” noted Carvalho. “His enthusiasm and commitment will be invaluable as we build our new department from the ground up.”
