The school year is a couple of weeks away, but organizers for the Kaua‘i High School 2007 Project Graduation are already hard at work. On Monday, chairperson Darnell Aquino, treasurer Yolli Yee and donations committee member Rosie Rapozo were starting to see some of the fruits of their labor — a $500 grant from the Young Brothers Community Advisory Board.
According to a press release prepared by Rapozo, the Kaua‘i High School 2007 Project Grad gives seniors a well-supervised drug- and alcohol-free party to celebrate their graduation.
Rapozo said the all-night party assures that graduates are kept safe while rewarding their accomplishments and keeping them off Kaua‘i’s streets immediately following their commencement ceremonies.
Although each senior pays a fee to attend, the amount of money the graduates pay does not cover the entire cost of the event. Rapozo said the graduation committee solicits donations and contributions to help defray the cost of this celebration which has become a tradition with high school graduations.
