Dan Spriggs carded his first hole-in-one Friday at the Wailua Golf Course No. 14.
Spriggs, who said this was a once-in-a-lifetime feat since he started playing golf in the mid-1960s, accomplished the feat using a 5 iron on the par 3, 169-yard hole.
Gregg Morishige, retired Kaua‘i fire battalion chief, watched the Titlelist Hi/Lo ball drop into the hole en route to Spriggs finishing with an 84 (45-39). With his 20 handicap, Spriggs’ net score was 64.
KYBA girls heading to O‘ahu
Claire Owens finished with 10 points to lead the Kilauea Hui to a 24-20 win over the Lihu‘e Kamikaze in the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association 18 Under girls basketball game Saturday.
Playing at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, the Kamikaze got 8 points from Jaime Mariano in the effort.
Destiny Smith finished with a dozen points to lead Wailua to a 33-21 win over the Kaulupono Girls in game two.
Kelsey Cadiente spearheaded the Kaulupono effort with 9 points.
Karen Matsumoto, the KYBA coordinator, said the girls will be taking this week off because the Kilauea Hui and Kaulupono Girls are participating in the 14th annual National Junior Basketball Hawai‘i Basketball Classic on O‘ahu.
The girls return to the hardwood on July 17 with Kilauea going up against Wailua.
