Cost of power adjustment rate increase
The Department of Water’s cost of power adjustment charge increased on July 1.
The increase, which amounts to $0.04 per thousand gallons, will cover higher than expected energy costs incurred this fiscal year, along with anticipated energy cost in the upcoming fiscal year, according to a county statement.
If energy costs decrease in the future, the adjustment could result in lower water rates.
The department’s energy costs totaled $2.6 million last year, while its overall revenue was $14.3 million.
All of the department’s revenues are obtained from water sales, not from real property taxes or the county’s general fund, states the release.
