Rolling behind a game-high 21-point performance from John Beralas, Kalepa wrapped up a 47-32 win over the Southwest Boyz “A” Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Wailua, who slipped to the Southwest A team Tuesday night, redeemed themselves with a solid 48-33 win over the Southwest Boyz “B” team in Game 2.
Davin Chong paced the Wailua win with 14 points to give the greenshirts a 1-1 record after the first week of play.
Southwest “B” had McDonald Alop take the scoring lead with 8 points.
In the early contest, Southwest “A” saw Alden Lahip, Chris Salvador and Kyle Achuela share scoring lead honors with 6 points apiece.
The KYBA 18 and Under league will debut the girls’ teams tonight at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center with games scheduled for 7 and 8 p.m.
Wailua, under coach Talbert Tacbian, will take the floor against the Lihu‘e Kamikaze coached by Keven Hanano starting at 7 p.m. They will be followed by Kilauea, under coach Mits Yokotake, hosting Kaulupono Girls with coaches Bobby Kamakele and Pedro Saligumba at the helm.
The boys will take the court tomorrow night when Kalepa Hillsiders and Wailua meet starting at 7 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. Following that contest, the two Southwest teams will meet each other for the first time.
