Kaua‘i’s Dylan Goodale set a King of the Groms record of 7 “skins” to win the Quiksilver competition yesterday at Huntington Beach, Calif.
At one point, Goodale was tied for the lead with his fellow surfing stars Jon Jon Florence, Nick Rupp, Victor Done, Keanu Asing, Nat Young.
But Goodale surfed the 2- to 3-foot waves, through 13 heats, to score consistently high scores. After being crowned, Goodale told the media, “I’m taking my mom out to dinner tonight.”
Along with the prize money, Goodale received a new set of KMC wheels and an all-expenses paid trip for himself and a chaperone to Capbre-
ton, France, for the KOG Global championships.
The winner of the grand finals is awarded an unparalleled opportunity — a guaranteed trials slot into three of the world’s biggest World Championship Tour — the Quiksilver Pro France, and the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. After being crowned, the King will be flown around the world to these events and given the chance to surf amazing waves and take it to his heroes at the ultimate level of competition.
