WAIMEA — Lihu‘e PONY Baseball blew open the contest in the fifth inning to beat Waimea 13-2, yesterday in Waimea, umpire Joe Bertucci said.
“It was pretty close up to the fifth inning,” Bertucci said. “But Lihu‘e opened everything up and went on to win.”
Entering the contest, Lihu‘e faced a must-win situation to force a second game Sunday, and with the win, will now replay Waimea at Waimea field starting at 10 a.m.
If Waimea had taken the contest, the season would’ve been over with Waimea being crowned the league champs.
