The Alzheimer’s Association Aloha Chapter on Friday will offer tips on living a “brain-healthy” lifestyle to Kaua‘i adults — particularly baby boomers — that can help reduce the risk for Alzheimer’s disease, according to a press release.
Tomorrow’s one-hour, free workshop, “Maintain Your Brain: How to Live a Brain-Healthy Lifestyle,” is open to the community and will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Community College cafeteria in Lihu‘e.
“The public has been asking us for clear guidance on what they can do to keep their brains healthy and reduce their risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease,” Janet Eli, president and CEO of the Aloha Chapter, said in the release. “Our new research-based workshop encourages people to maintain their brain health by staying physically and mentally active, eating a brain-healthy diet and remaining socially involved, which are the key aspects of the ‘Maintain Your Brain’ campaign.”
The interactive workshop will feature a question-and-answer format on subjects such as nutritional and lifestyle advice, how to keep a sharp memory, exercises and activities.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, strong lifestyle choices for brain health include:
• Staying sharp with challenging mental activities.
• Engaging in social interactions.
• Adopting a brain-healthy diet.
• Remaining physically active.
