KAPA‘A — Kaleo Cummings finished with 9 points to spark Team Central’s come-from-behind 31-20 win over the Gee Unit Monday night.
The final contest of three played at the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapa‘a saw two 13 and Under boys games take place as the 13U Team Central was an 86-13 winner over Wailua and the 13U Gee Unit was a 39-25 winner over Hanakila before the 15 and Under boys took the floor for the finale.
Cummings came up with two quick buckets in the final ticks of the first half to pull Team Central, coached by Daniel Simao, to within one, 13-12, erasing a first quarter deficit of nine points.
From there, it was a 19-7 scoring run in the second half for the win, Team Central holding the unit scoreless through the third quarter and most of the fourth period.
Following Cummings, Cody Iwasaki and Austin Simao chipped in 6 points. Brian Andres, Niko Chow, Canaan Higa, Stevenson Rivera and Kapono Cummings rounded out the scoring with pairs.
Winston Gee paced the unit’s scoring with 7 points.
Dane Bautista finished with a game-high 13 points, combining with an 11-point showing from Adam Clark in leading the 13U Gee Unit to its win over a tenacious Hanakila squad.
Morgan Childs had three breakaway running shots to finish with 9 points for Hanakila. Elmer Cudiamat, Kawika Wellington and Luan Becerra added 4 points each, and pairs from James Stevens and Reason Selz rounded out the effort.
Keane Agoot netted a blistering 40 points, including seven from outside the three-point arc, in the 13U Team Central’s win over Wailua. Duke Pauli followed with 28 points with the next highest scorer, Keone Kinzie, finishing with 8 points.
Na Morales paced the Wailua effort with 7 points, all coming in the second half, and one from outside the three-point arc that met with enthusiastic applause from greenshirt fans.
Games scheduled for last night at the Kilauea Gym were rescheduled due to problems with the facility.
