Catholic Charities Hawai‘i announced recently that it has expanded two of its foster care programs on O‘ahu to the Neighbor Islands. The Statewide Resource Families and Interstate Compact Services on the Placement of Children programs have opened offices and begun serving families and children on Kaua‘i, Maui, and Hawai‘i Island. The Statewide Resource Families program also provides services to foster families and children on Moloka‘i.
The Statewide Resource Families program provides an integrated and community-based approach to identify, assess, train, and license Child-Specific foster/resource families (Special Licensed Relatives and Special Licensed Homes). SRF also offers training services in the PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education) curriculum for current backlog foster families. The Statewide Resource Families program is a partner with Hui Ho‘omalu, which is a collaboration of foster care providers in Hawai‘i.
The Interstate Compact Services on the Placement of Children program monitors and ensures safe and stable placement of children in foster or adoptive care across state lines. ICPC also provides home study and case management services for ICPC children who are being reunified with biological parents or who are being considered for foster care, adoption, or placement with relatives.
“For the past several years, Catholic Charities Hawai‘i has taken initiatives to expand our presence on the Neighbor Islands and are pleased to add these foster care programs to our existing programs that serve the Kaua‘i, Maui, and Hawai‘i Island communities,” said Stella Wong, Catholic Charities Hawai‘i vice president of programs, in a press release.
