The Speed & Quickness clinics will return to Kaua‘i starting June 19, said Roy Nishida, Kaua‘i coordinator for the program.
This year’s offerings will include clinics for soccer, volleyball and football and will be held for two days and at three locations to enable more student athletes to take advantage of its offerings, Nishida said.
Additionally, children will be broken down in two groups — 6 to 12 years old, and 13 to 18 years old, to maximize the benefits the youngsters can derive from attending these free clinics.
Hosted by the county of Kaua‘i’s anti-drug office, the soccer camps will open the summer program on June 19 to 21.
June 19’s program will take place at the Waimea High School gym with keiki from 6 to 12 years old invited to the session that runs from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
Teens from 13 to 18 years old are invited to the camp that runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The clinic moves to the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School on June 20 following the same schedule as the Waimea camp.
Kapa‘a High School gym is the gathering site for the third clinic which will be offered on June 21 following the same schedule as the Waimea program.
University of Hawai‘i soccer coach Joshua Fouts will join UH strength coaches Rich Miano and Mel DeLaura in hosting these clinics. Additionally, University of Hawai‘i student athletes will also be on hand to help Kaua‘i youngsters with the skills training program designed to teach athletes to become faster, quicker and excel in all sports.
Fouts is the assistant coach for the Hawai‘i soccer program and tentative camp counselors include All-Western Athletic Conference players Lehua Wood and Jessica Domingo. Shawn Higa is also scheduled to round out the list of players.
Following the soccer camp, the Speed & Quickness program for football is scheduled for June 22 to 24 at Vidinha Stadium.
A Speed & Quickness program for Volleyball rounds out the summer offering June 26-28.
All participants for any of the programs are requested to be at the site of their choice at least 30 minutes before the starting time.
Students must also wear covered athletic shoes.
