A local surfer drowned at one of the breaks fronting the Lawai Resort in Koloa Saturday, states a police department press release.
A 53-year-old Koloa man was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon sometime after 3 p.m., according to the release.
Police state the victim was found floating face down near Prince Kuhi‘o Beach at around 2:45 p.m. and was brought to shore by surfers in the area.
Medics and firefighters from the Koloa fire station performed CPR on the man at the scene and on the way to Wilcox Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, states the release.
His name is being held until the family has been notified.
Saturday’s drowning marks the fifth on Kaua‘i this year.
