Janine Rapozo has been recommended for appointment as the new director of the Offices of Community Assistance and is pending approval by Kaua‘i County Council confirmation.
Rapozo has been serving as OCA’s interim director since Bernard Carvalho moved on to establish the Department of Parks and Recreation.
“Janine joined the Transportation Agency over 12 years ago and has played a pivotal role in guiding the agency through a period of tremendous growth,” said Mayor Bryan Baptiste, in a press release. “She clearly understands the mission of OCA. I think she’ll do well in her new role.”
As head of OCA, Rapozo will oversee the Elderly Affairs, Housing and Transportation agencies.
“I’m honored to serve the people of Kaua‘i in this capacity,” said Rapozo, in the release. “I intend to continue to move forward projects started by Bernard and also look at other ways to enhance services offered by OCA.”
Prior to joining the county, Rapozo worked for Interim Healthcare and Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity Inc., where she managed elderly services contracts.
Rapozo is a graduate of Kapa‘a High School and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif.
She is married to Leonard Rapozo. They have two children, Machaela, age 11, and Kelsen, 1.
