They were still talking about the Monday night basketball game — coach Cecil Gee said they had the radio on all night at the county’s 12 and Under girls basketball games.
Charlie Ortiz, who was referee-ing those games, said it was his father’s old radio, but since the crowd was so loud, he could barely hear Anahola Joel Pahukula’s commentary.
Ben Agu split his ‘ohana so part of the group went to the Kalaheo games while he and the rest went to Kaua‘i High School.
Courtney Contrades, a Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School student, was playing for Island Heat Wednesday night and joined her student leadership group for the Valentine’s dance for the seniors Thursday.
Hats off to Marta Hulsman who wanted to keep the event cozy so held it in Kapa‘a! Bernard Carvalho was standing in for the mayor and had to leave to take in the Kaua‘i Food Bank event in town..
Melanie Okamoto had to take a trip over to the Kapa‘a pool to check out the group that was doing some aquatic moves out there … actually, she said she had to talk with Jeremy Haupt.
Congratulations to Guy Higa (he was at KCC getting ready for the ACF Breakfast, but ended up helping chef Martina Hilldorfer and the Okinawa Christian Junior College with their Hawaiian plates). Guy’s son Canaan not only won the Kaua‘i District Spelling Bee recently, he won the MathCounts on Saturday, too!
Guy says when they go off to the finals, it’s MathCounts one day and the Spelling Bee the next — two finals in two days! OK, ‘nuff said … wake up early, check out the ACF Breakfast … you might see the guy Chase from AM940!
