WAIPIO, O‘ahu — The Kapa‘a High School boys soccer team defeated Kalaheo 2-1 in the state tournament yesterday. Kapa‘a (8-1-1, 1-1 in the tournament) advance for their final match of the tournament, against Kealakehe (14-2-0, 1-1). The game is set for tomorrow at 4 p.m.
In the 44th minute, Kapa‘a sophomore Ikaika Fuerte scored to place the Warriors ahead. Kalaheo’s senior Tino Smiley answered, tying the game at 1 apiece.
Fellow Warrior sophomore Tyler Angelder scored the winning goal in the second half.
They were knocked out of championship contention in the first round, losing to Leilehua.
Leilehua (12-2-0, 1-0) defeated top-ranked Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama last night. Leilehua converted three penalty kicks to Kamehameha-Kapalama’s one, for the win.
No ranked teams advance to the semis. Teams advancing for one more round are Kalani (11-4-1, 2-0), Roosevelt (11-2-2, 2-0) and last year’s state champion Punahou (13-1-1, 2-0).
