WAIPIO, O‘ahu — The Kapa‘a Warriors boys soccer team’s state tournament run was cut short yesterday with a 2-0 loss to the Mules of Leilehua.
Bryant Ortiz and Syd Tom scored, advancing Leilehua to a quarterfinal match against top-ranked Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama.
This was the Warriors’ first appearance since 2002.
Kapa‘a (7-1-1, 0-1 in the tournament) will play Kalaheo (7-4-4, 0-1) today in a consolation match at 1 p.m.
The winner of this game will play in one more round, Saturday at 4 p.m., against either Kamehameha School-Hawai‘i (11-5-0, 0-1) or Kealakehe (13-2-0, 01).
Leilehua (12-2-0) plays Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama (11-0-1) today at 7 p.m.
In other tournament action, Kalani (10-4-1, 1-0), Roosevelt (10-2-2, 1-0) and last year’s champion Punahou (12-1-1, 1-0) advance to the quarterfinals.
The state tournament continues through Saturday.
There are currently no plans for television or radio broadcast for any of the games.
