Does anyone need a pickup?
“She has three children and can probably use the money more than she can a pickup,” said Tom Moran after accepting the keys to a new 2006 Mazda pickup Thursday afternoon. “I’ll see if I can sell the pickup and send her the money.”
Moran is the dad of Brandi Remy of Sacramento, Calif., who held the winning ticket.
“This was her first trip to Hawai‘i, and I had to convince her to go to Kmart where we bought the winning tickets,” Moran said. “Actually, I bought two tickets and I told her to fill out one while I filled out the other.”
Moran said that was in September and he had forgotten about the contribution until his daughter called him a few days after the drawing in November.
“This Ed guy said I won the truck,” Moran said his daughter told him.
Johnny Rabasa of the Kaua‘i Veterans Center said because the winner was from out-of-state, the prize presentation had to wait for the forms to be sent to California, filled out and then sent back.
Other winners in the KVC fund-raiser included Deanna Starineiri, who was awarded a trip for two to Las Vegas through Vacations Hawai‘i; Craig Watanabe, who won a $250 gift certificate to Kmart; Jackie Barnard, who snagged a $250 gift certificate to Big-Save; and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Matsuyoshi, who each received a round-trip ticket to a Neighbor Island.
KVC’s annual fund-raiser will coincide with the annual Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau Fair.
