The 2005-2007 Tax Review Commission this week submitted its final report to the state Legislature, addressing tax policy, tax administration and general excise and income taxation.
According to the office of Dr. Donald Rousslang, the review commission’s technical coordinator, 23 recommendations were made affecting individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, tax professionals and all other Hawai‘i taxpayers.
They include recommendations regarding Hawai‘i’s participation in the Streamlined Sales Tax Project and the qualified high technology business investment tax credit, as well as numerous other recommendations addressing tax exemptions and credits, reporting and filing requirements and audit procedures, Rousslang’s office states in a press release.
“We received significant input from past commission members, the Department of Taxation and other government agencies, tax practitioners and members of the public,” commission chair Isaac W. Choy said in the release.
“Report of the 2005-2007 Tax Review Commission” is available on the Department of Taxation’s Web site at www.hawaii.gov/tax. The commission, appointed by Gov. Linda Lingle, will dissolve when the 2007 legislative session adjourns.
