Back in October, a lucky Los Angeles couple and the producers of the Style Network’s “How Do I Look” boarded the “Pride of Hawai‘i” in Honolulu and set saild for Nawiliwili Harbor.
That couple was Bessie Kovoloff and Pablo Marvelis.
“They were exactly what we were looking for,” host Finola Hughes said in between takes. “We have a great story here and it’s great stories like theirs that carry the show.”
Kovoloff, a preschool teacher, envisioned a big wedding when she got engaged to Marvelis, a law student. But the death of her father made her have second thoughts.
“I really wanted him to walk me down the aisle,” Kovoloff said. “And without him being at the wedding, I just wasn’t sure if we should even do the big wedding. We’d thought of eloping.”
Then along came reality television, which allowed her to have a destination wedding and have her closest friends attend.
“How Do I Look,” the Style Network’s highest-rated show, takes fashion-impaired individuals and gives them a head-to-toe-makeover from their close friends and a celebrity stylist.
During the couple’s weeklong stay on Kaua‘i, camera crews followed them at fittings and spa treatments.
“It’s been an experience for sure, sometimes a stressful one, but definitely an experience,” Kovoloff said.
The wedding special shot at Nawiliwili marked a number of firsts for the show. It was the first show shot on location and not in the L.A. studio, the first wedding special and the first time the show made over a couple.
The two-hour special airs tomorrow on the Style Network, first at 4 p.m. and then again at 7 p.m.
