County officials announced yesterday that finance director Michael Tresler will leave his post at the end of the month.
It’s the second high-ranking county official to step down in the last week. County Attorney Lani Nakazawa resigned Friday.
According to a Department of Finance release, Tresler has expressed an interest in returning to the private sector and is considering several opportunities.
Mayor Bryan Baptiste appointed Tresler in December 2002 when he was elected to his first term in office.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve the community as a member of Mayor Baptiste’s team,” Tresler said in a statement. “I’ve enjoyed working with so many talented people in the county and intend to continue to support the administration and County Council.”
The mayor thanked Tresler for his contributions over the last four years, touching on several initiatives he credited Tresler with spearheading.
“Mike has successfully led the finance department through major changes,” Baptiste said in the release. “A lot was accomplished during his tenure including the launching of several online services — bill payments for real property taxes and sewer bills, status check of building permits and GIS applications that enable users to find property information and obtain satellite imagery of any area on the island.”
Officials offered no hint as to who Tresler’s replacement will be, or the timetable for naming one.
