Mel Rapozo is hoping the airlines will have open seats Friday.
Following Kaua‘i High School’s win in the rain Friday, Mel wants to go to Aloha Stadium, but with the Kaua‘i County Council inauguration scheduled for 1 p.m., it’s off to the airport following the ceremonies.
Ralph Suniga was not going to take chances — he booked his flight before the Friday night game in the rain against Waipahu.
Congratulations to coach Kelii Morgado and his staff on the victory. Clyde Kaluahine was still pumping shave ice despite the rain at Vidinha. Annette Hashimoto (she missed the vernacular shirts being worn by the Toy twins) was up at 3:30 Friday morning to check out the 5 a.m. specials and still made it to the stadium to sell tickets with Verna. Even Greg Gonsalves braved all that water to help out, and Lanaly Cabalo made it to press “heaven” with the help of Michael Alonzo’s tiny umbrella.
On the other side of the island, mahalo to Chlorie Igne (Kelsie played a great game, too!) for all the help in collating the results of the WHS softball invitational. Besides the Wayne Soma family, Herbie Kawamura had his ‘ohana out on the Westside as well. Coaches Pat Baniaga and Albert Soto had a semi-permanent spot under the trees.
Joe Grace folks had a better idea — set up the tents around the pickups … Mike Koerte (water, anyone?) and the rest of the umpires and tournament officials camped out there.
OK, now it’s time to get ready for Friday and all the festivities that get mixed in with the inauguration. Who’s going to set up on the sidewalk at 3 p.m.?
